Simply place your letters in our dedicated red mourning bag and present it at your Post Office. We’ll handle the rest—providing extra priority, real-time alerts for address errors, and updates on any unexpected delays.

This new service has been co-developed with the funeral sector, which means more than 90% of Belgian funeral homes can support you with sending your letters. Simply ask them for the bpost red mourning bag, and they’ll guide you through it.

2. Address your letters
You can gather all your letters and cards of a standardized format in the bag. Simply write and address them before placing them inside. No stamps are needed. Your funeral service provider will send you a clear invoice after the funeral.

Bring the bag to your Post Office, where the staff will register it and ensure it is processed through priority channels. To ensure timely delivery, drop it off at your Post Office at least a couple of days before the funeral, no later than 5 pm.

You may still have these questions
Each delivered card/letter will cost the price of a PRIOR sending (see Quantity-pricing for 0-50 g letters). If you were given the red bag by your funeral service provider, they will invoice you the full cost after the funerals. If you drop your letters/cards directly at the Post Office, you will pay the total amount upfront.
You can also include these in your red mourning bag. The price for these specific ones will be updated automatically. But note that we can’t guarantee a Prior treatment abroad, nor can we ensure the address is right. Delivery period is usually:
- To our neighbouring countries: 2 to 3 working days
- To other European countries: 3 to 6 working days
- To the rest of the world: 5 to 20 working days
If an address error is picked-up upon sorting your letters and cards, your funeral service provider is automatically updated and can warn you through the appropriate channel. If you haven’t received the red mourning bag from your provider but brought your letters to bpost yourself, we’ll send you an e-mail on the provided e-mail address.
Regular stamps or mourning stamps are still available but don’t guarantee the extra care and priority as the red mourning bag, for which we send automatic updates to your funeral service provider.
The mourning red bag can only be used letters or cards of standardized format:
- A4 folded in 3 (210 x 99 mm) or A4 folded in 4 (148 x 99 mm)
- Maximum thickness: 5 mm
- Minimum dimensions: 90 x 140 mm
- Maximum dimensions: 125 x 235 mm
- Rectangular only (not square)
- Less than 50 g
If your cards or letters exceeds these, send them with regular prior stamps, following the applicable rules.
